Des Moines Public Basketball Courts: Find a Court Near You

If you love playing basketball and live in the Des Moines metro, you’re in luck! There are many public basketball courts scattered throughout Des Moines. So there’s likely a court near you! The great thing is, most of them are in our beautiful local city parks. 

This article lists Des Moines public basketball courts in city parks, complete with a map.

Below is a brief description of the basketball courts, along with a view from Google Maps.

Ashfield Park

Address: 720 E 19th St, Des Moines
The Ashfield Park basketball court is a half-court setup and is just east of the Iowa State Capitol. 

Bates Park

Address: 330 Clark St, Des Moines
Bates Park has a full basketball court and benches along the sidelines. Find this court north of downtown (north of I-235).

Brody School Park

Address: 3100 SW 23rd St, Des Moines
Brody School has two full-court and half-court options (six hoops). The park is a joint-use agreement between Brody School and the City of Des Moines.

Cheatom Park

Address: 1100 Day St, Des Moines
Cheatom Park is a small park just north of I-235 near the DMACC Urban Campus. The basketball court is full-court.

Chesterfield Park

Address: 2719 Scott Ave, Des Moines
Chesterfield Park has a full-sized basketball court. It’s on the southeast side of Des Moines.

Columbus Park

Address: 1921 SE 1st St, Des Moines
Columbus Park has a full court with benches at the sidelines. Find it just south of downtown.

Drake Park

Address: 2300 Drake Park Ave, Des Moines
Drake Park has a full-court and benches on the sidelines and is southeast of Drake University.

Edna Griffin Park

Address: 1613 13th St, Des Moines
The Edna Griffin Park is a small neighborhood park with a half-court with one hoop. Find it a few blocks northeast of Drake University.

Evelyn K. Davis Park

Address: 1400 Forest Ave, Des Moines
Evelyn K. Davis Park is a large neighborhood park with two full courts and one half-court. It’s directly east of Drake University on Forest Avenue.

Frisbie Park

Address: 6101 Muskogee Ave, Des Moines
Frisbie Park is on the west side of Des Moines, near the Aliber Soccer Complex and Walnut Creek Trail. There’s street parking near the basketball court.

Good Park

Address: 1155 17th St, Des Moines
Good Park has a full-size basketball court on the park’s south end. It’s at the intersection of University Ave and Keo Way. 

Grandview Park

Address: 3230 Easton Blvd, Des Moines
Grandview Park is a large wooded park near Strasser Woods with a half-court and benches. Parking is off E. 33rd Street.

Laurel Hill Park

Address: 3407 Dean Ave, Des Moines
Laurel Hill has a full basketball court with benches. This neighborhood park is nestled on Des Moines’ southeast side (near Sleepy Hollow). 

Martin Luther King Jr. Park

Address: 1650 Garfield Avenue, Des Moines
MLK Jr. Park has a full basketball court and off-street parking. It’s a neighborhood park on Des Moines’ east side.

Pete Crivaro Park

Address: 1105 E Railroad Ave, Des Moines
Pete Crivaro Park is just off SE 14th St and has a full-size basketball court (with off-street parking).

Redhead Park

Address: 1700 Dean Ave, Des Moines
Redhead Park has a colorful half-court with one hoop and benches. It’s just east of the Iowa State Capitol on Des Moines’ east side.

Sayers Park

Address: 1300 Linden Ln, Des Moines
Sayers Park is on Des Moines’ southwest side, near the airport, and has a full-size basketball court.

Sheridan Park

Address: 4000 Hull Ave, Des Moines
Sheridan Park has a half-court basketball court on Des Moines’ east side, near Pleasant Hill.

Irving Stone Park

Address: 2100 SE 5th St, Des Moines
Stone Park has a full-size basketball court with off-street parking. It’s just south of downtown.

Tower Park

Address: 4900 Hickman Rd, Des Moines
Tower Park has a full-size court behind Franklin Middle School off Hickman Road, east of Merle Hay.

Woodlawn Park

Address: 3126 Twana Dr, Des Moines
Woodlawn Park has a full-size court with off-street parking near the Beaverdale neighborhood. 

There you have it, a complete list of public basketball courts in Des Moines parks! There are many, and you’re sure to find one near you.
