Welcome to Des Moines Outdoors!

Des Moines Outdoors is a site dedicated to helping you find the best adventures in Des Moines and the state of Iowa.

We’re native Iowans that, for over 25 years, have camped, hiked, biked, and explored our home state. We encourage you to do the same.

There’s so much more to see and do in Iowa than many people imagine! Our goal is to help visitors and residents alike experience the best of our beautiful state.

The idea for this site started on the Middle Raccoon River Water Trail on one warm summer day in 2020. Our family was kayaking through a stunning section of river with giant granite boulders and quick riffles. And we wondered aloud if someone who’d never been there would believe there was such beauty in Iowa.

We’ve been exploring the state for years, discovering countless scenic and wondrous places along the way. Indeed, there are adventures in every corner.

Des Moines, the state of Iowa, and the Midwest are chock full of great places and outdoor experiences. And we’re making it our mission to share them with you!

Here, you’ll find camping and travel ideas, weekend getaways, parks, hiking, and so many great things to do.

So, whether you’re an Iowa native or a visitor that wants to explore, you’re in the right place. You’re sure to find your Iowa adventure here.
